Arrived around 9:00AM this morning local time (3AM for us). Picked up the rental and went straight to the Huyghe brewery in Melle (just east of Ghent). Filip was an absolutely wonderful tour guide for us and we definitely appreciate him taking time out of what is an obviously busy schedule. I can’t even fathom that they began construction of a new brewhouse in March 2011 and were running the first brews out of it in November of the same year. Quite an awesome feat.
From there we made our way to our hotel in Brussels. Nothing spectacular, but it will certainly do.
After a quick rest we headed off to the Bier Circus. A small sampling of Belgian beers was finally obtained with a little patience. The Saison Voisin was voted top beer of the evening. Quite hoppy and bitter for a saison style beer, but well balanced none the less.
After a quick bite to eat, we’re now ready to call it a night. Bright and early tomorrow for a visit to Brouwerij Bosteels in Buggenhout (say that five times fast).
Tune in again tomorrow for more of Bryan and Gord’s alt skul adventure.
